Global Pathology Experts Converge on Sunway City for 10th IAPMD Annual Scientific Meeting
SUNWAY CITY, MALAYSIA – October 2, 2025 – The 10th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the International Academy of Pathology, Malaysian Division (IAPMD), concluded today following two days of intensive masterclasses and discussions focused on advancements in women's health diagnostics.
Held at the SunMed Convention Centre at Sunway Medical Centre in Subang Jaya, the landmark event, officially launched by YBhg. Datuk Dr Mahathar bin Abd Wahab, Director General of Health Malaysia (KKM), which ran from October 1st to 2nd, gathered leading anatomical pathologists from across the region and the world under the theme: “Empowering Women's Health: From Cells to Cure.”
The 2025 ASM focused specifically on improving the provision of routine and diagnostic challenges within Breast and Gynecological Pathology. Delegates benefited from comprehensive sessions covering new molecular pathology findings, emerging diagnostic biomarkers, and the pathogenesis of challenging diseases.
A standout feature of the meeting was the assembly of prominent overseas invited speakers, including Professor Dr Ghazi Zatari ( Keynote speaker - Elected Secretary of The International Academy of Pathology (IAP) , American University of Beirut ), Professor Mark Chen (President of the Taiwan Society of Clinical Cytology ), Professor Annie Cheung (University of Hong Kong), Professor Tan Puay Hoon (National University of Singapore), and Professor Gary Tse (Chinese University of Hong Kong). Not forgetting the local invited speakers , Dr. Arfahiza Selimin ( Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Malaysia) and Dr. Mohamad Rafie ( Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) . These specialists delivered masterclasses aimed at enhancing diagnostic accuracy and concordance in high-difficulty areas.
The meeting also celebrated excellence in research with the presentation of the prestigious Datuk Dr Chong Chun Hian Memorial Prize for the best scientific presentation in the field of Obstetric and Gynaecologic pathology.
The successful running of the ASM was made possible by the generous support of its corporate sponsors. Beyond the scientific rigor, delegates also enjoyed networking opportunities, including a lively Zumba session held on the final morning to promote well-being and interaction.
In collaboration with the Malaysian Society of Cytology (MSoC), the conference also included a dedicated post-conference workshop on cytopathology issues. The event reinforces the IAPMD’s commitment to advancing the knowledge and practice of anatomic pathology in Malaysia and beyond.
