The Department of Pathology, Universiti Sains Malaysia in collaboration with International Academy of Pathology, Malaysian Division (IAPMD) had organised an East Coast Gastrointestinal Pathology Update Seminar. This seminar was held on 6th September 2018 at School of Medical Sciences Universiti Sains Malaysia, Health Campus, Kubang Kerian Kelantan. This one day seminar had been attended by 75 delegates, comprised Pathologists, Clinician, Surgeon, Medical Officers and Trainees.

Our invited speakers were from both a histopathological and clinical background. Our key speaker was Datin Dr Nik Raihan Nik Mustapha, our Consultant Histopathologist & Head of Histopathology Unit Department of Pathology Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar, Kedah, who has subspecialty in Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Pathology. The other speaker was Prof Dr. Lee Yong Yeh, Professor of Medicine and Senior Consultant of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Internal Medicine, from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Health Campus. Both speakers have a vast experience in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases.

The seminar included lectures which was very inspiring, informative and updated. The selected interesting and challenging cases were discussed during the slide seminar session. Overall, this seminar was a success comprising a good discussion between pathologists, gastroenterologist and surgeon in order to have a common understanding of gastrointestinal pathology reporting.

I would like to thank all who attended the East Coast Gastrointestinal Pathology Update 2018, the committee members who chaired by Dr. Sharifah Emilia Tuan Sharif and all who helped to make this seminar a real success. I hope that all delegates had enjoyed this seminar, have a good day shopping in Kota Bharu and happily connected with old friends!
